For NEW TATUNG OWNERS
Before cleaning, unplug your Tatung rice cooker and allow it to cool. Do NOT use benzene, thinner, abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or metallic brushes, which will damage the surface of the cooker.
- Rice Cooker Body (Outer Pot with Cord Set): Do NOT immerse the rice cooker's body in water or other liquid. You can clean it by lightly wiping with a soft, damp cloth. For a more thorough clean, you can do the following:
Add half a cup of white vinegar or lemon juice to the outer pot. Then add water until the outer pot is half full.
Turn on the cooking switch, leaving the Tatung uncovered.
Once the liquid boils for a few minutes, turn off the rice cooker and let cool. This takes about 5-7 minutes. We recommend setting a timer or keeping a close eye on it, to make sure the water does not fully boil off.
Once the rice cooker has cooled, pour out the vinegar water and wipe clean with water and a paper towel. Don't use any metal or abrasive scrubbers. - Pot Cover, Inner Pot, Measuring Cup, and Rice Spatula: These items can all be cleaned in the dishwasher or hand-washed as normal.
New appliances have a factory coating to protect electrical elements during storage. Before cooking for the first time, cover the outer pot and turn on the cooking switch without any food or accessories. Let heat until the switch lever leaps up. This helps to burn off the coating in the first uses. A small amount of smoke is normal during this process.
No. For safety reasons, the inner pot lid should never be placed inside the rice cooker while cooking is in progress. Use it only when storing food inside the inner pot.

When cooking brown rice in the Tatung, we recommend the following:
- Additional Water: For brown rice, add one additional cup of water to the outer pot compared to the amount you would use for white rice.
- Soaking: Alternatively, you may soak the brown rice for about 2 hours before cooking.
Tatung recommends making a minimum of 2 cups of rice for the best results.
You can use heat-resistant ceramic, stainless steel, and stoneware for steaming. Heat-resistant glass like borosilicate glass or Pyrex can also be used. Avoid plastic or glass that is not heat-safe.
Yes. Each Tatung rice cooker purchased from Yun Hai comes with a limited one-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Details are provided in the Tatung user manual, which is included in every package.
FOR THOSE CONSIDERING THE TATUNG
All three colors of Yun Hai's Tatung Electric Steamers & Rice Cookers—red, green, and stainless steel—are made of stainless steel. This includes both the inner and outer parts of the rice cooker.
The 6-cup is a smaller size that has the same functionality as the 11-cup, but holds less. For example, instead of using a whole fish for steamed fish, you might need to use a fillet. It’s a great size for an individual who loves to cook, a couple, or a small family. Or, if you want to save on counter space.
The 11-cup is a great size for a mid- to large-sized household, or individuals who love to host. It can make rice for your day-to-day, but also scale up for a party in a pinch.
Check out this comparison of the 6-cup and 11-cup Tatung steamers for measurements.
No, no non-stick coating of any kind is used on the Tatung inner pot, appliance, or components.
Generally yes! However for spare parts like the upper pot, inner pot, inner pot lid, and the outer pot handle, make sure you’re purchasing the correct size for your Tatung. You can check by referencing the product description and the product specifications and dimensions. Please note that the power cable is only compatible with the Tatung TAC-6/10/11/11V-M Series Rice Cooker.
Refurbished Tatung units are not available for international shipping.
For all other items, including our regular collection of Tatung steamers, we ship to the UK, Canada, and Ireland with an estimated arrival time of 2-3 weeks. Refer to the question below to check if the Tatung voltage works for your location.
Rates will be calculated at checkout based on location and order size. Please note that shipments to countries outside the US may be subject to taxes, customs duties, and fees levied by the destination country. The recipient of the shipment is the importer of record and is responsible for any of the fees listed above.
For all other countries, we recommend checking to see if there's a Tatung distributor in your country, or shipping to a package forwarder for delivery to your country.
The Tatung steamers we distribute are designed for 110-120V, which is standard in the US. If you'd like to use your Tatung steamer in a country with 220V power, you will need to use a step-down transformer that converts 220V to 110V, and then plug the appliance into that transformer. We recommend this one with 2000W, but any quality step-down transformer with adequate wattage will work.
Tatung 大同 is pronounced "Dà-Tóng," with the O being a long 'Oh.' Yun Hai founder Lisa Cheng Smith demonstrates the correct pronunciation in our cooking series, Cooking with Steam.
