Stir Fried Shrimp with Nyonya Sauce
Yishan and Ewe of Mama Nyonya have a treasure trove of recipes using Nyonya sauce (both from family and sourced from their droves of adoring customers in Taiwan). Here's a simple one that uses Nyonya sauce to dress up some shrimp.
Stir Fried Shrimp with Nyonya Sauce
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tablespoons oil (we use Dong He Peanut Oil)
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 pound shrimp (we use head on shrimp)
- 5 tablespoons Mama Nyonya Sauce
- 3 tablespoons rice wine (we use Taiwanese mi chiu 米酒)
- Scallions, chopped for garnish (can also use cilantro)
INSTRUCTIONS

- Add in the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add in the shrimp and stir fry on high heat until the color of the shrimp turns slightly orange.
- Add in the Mama Nyonya Sauce and stir fry for another 5-10 minutes on high heat.
- Finish with the rice wine and cook for 30 seconds.
- Serve with your choice of garnish. We used scallions here, but feel free to add on cilantro or leave as is.
