Stir Fried Shrimp with Nyonya Sauce

Stir Fried Shrimp with Nyonya Sauce

Yishan and Ewe of Mama Nyonya have a treasure trove of recipes using Nyonya sauce (both from family and sourced from their droves of adoring customers in Taiwan). Here's a simple one that uses Nyonya sauce to dress up some shrimp.

Stir Fried Shrimp with Nyonya Sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons oil (we use Dong He Peanut Oil)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 pound shrimp (we use head on shrimp)
  • 5 tablespoons Mama Nyonya Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine (we use Taiwanese mi chiu 米酒)
  • Scallions, chopped for garnish (can also use cilantro)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat up oil in a pan.
  2. Add in the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add in the shrimp and stir fry on high heat until the color of the shrimp turns slightly orange.
  4. Add in the Mama Nyonya Sauce and stir fry for another 5-10 minutes on high heat.
  5. Finish with the rice wine and cook for 30 seconds.
  6. Serve with your choice of garnish. We used scallions here, but feel free to add on cilantro or leave as is.
